I've said many times, we tend to waste resources thinking stuff is going to save us. It ain't. Skills at using what you have will.
Once, a while ago, when trying to figure out how to afford the latest and greatest blaster, without I would not prevail in the fight, I thought "How much could I take with me if I had to bug out?" Why leave weapons and ammo behind because you need other stuff like food and clothing?
Weapons and ammo are heavy. So is water and precious metals. Walk with your bug out bag as far as you can until you're uncomfortable. How far was that?
Great article. Minimize and become highly proficient at the basics. Be dependable and reliable to your family, friends, and neighbors. Excellent points.
A prepper once asked Warren Buffett if he should save gold, silver or any other precious metals as a hedge against societal collapse. He responded “How many calories are in an ounce of gold?” He then suggested that if there’s any real chance of collapse the only metal to have was lead.
As in life and the working world, fancy, expensive shiny thy get lots of attention but it’s the rugged and reliable that shows up everyday and works every time that really make the difference and keeps the wheels of society running. Even when the SHTF or the things start to collapse! Being able to keep moving forward, steady and without panic in the chaos is what really gets you and your family to through the bad times.
People w canes, wheelchair, looking weak are in the opposite end of looking abnormal, an easy target. In a long run disaster skills like sewing, cooking, using a wood powered grill, can be powerful & valuable skill. Stock a few cheap bottles of alcohol, it has a very long shelf life. The bigger issues are no electricity & water.
Longer term issues that will take life quickly are hygiene things, what to do about bathroom & trash. Could kill your quicker than everything but water. Sharing some thoughts about what I've thought of not being a pepper. Living in tornado alley will do that to you.
I live in Brazil and I can assure you: pulling a handgun on someone that is robbing you is the LAST thing you should do! They came prepared to that, always covered by an accomplice at your blind spot. Situational awareness, this is the way. But pulling a gun? Never
And that's why I carry, every single day. "Oh, it rubs and chafes me." Yeah, grow a pair of balls. You want to be dead or alive? You never know when you're gonna bump into someone who needs killing.
